Makena Collins is an illustrator from Laguna Beach, California. In May 2020, she graduated Honors Magna Cum Laude from California State University, Fullerton with a Bachelor of Fine Arts, Illustration. During her last semester, she was taken on as Creative Intern at Sizzix in Lake Forest, CA. In 2018, a study abroad experience in Mexico allowed her to authentically study Frida Kahlo and Mexican Muralism. During that trip, Makena joined Walls that Unite in holding a service learning project In Ojos de agua, Guanajuato. Together, they  encouraged the students to develop a sense of community, which aided in the completion of a mural project that was later hung in the town's community center. Makena's implementation of expressive voice in the creative process gives her work genuine qualities that are unique to her as an artist.
